The red-backed mannikin (Lonchura nigriceps), also known as the brown-backed mannikin or brown-backed munia, is a common species of estrildid finch found in Africa. This taxon has been considered a subspecies of L. bicolor, the black-and-white mannikin. In Kenya, Rufous-backed Mannikin occurs in Central Kenyan highlands, on coast north to Lamu, inland to the Usambara and Pare mts and Taveta. Locally at Nguruman Hills.
